Just to sweeten the pot a bit, I'll give you my take on Netfirms:
I've been a customer here for more than 5 years. I'm on the Advantage hosting plan and have 9 domains across 5 or so web sites. My sites are pretty elaborate making me a technically demanding customer. I use it all - MySQL databases, HEAVY PHP usage, cron, ssh, URL masking, email aliases - you name it. It's all included with my plan. I can count on one hand the number of times my sites have gone down in five years, and it's never been for long. Of course my site is on a shared server yet performance always seems to be good. The prices are as good or better than anywhere else.
So that was the good. Now for the not so good; there are two things:
First thing: in the past I referred about 15 new accounts to Netfirms for which I received nothing, simply because I wasn't aware of the Rewards program. When I called the Affiliate Manager, he seemed amused but did absolutely nothing for me. But I figure we're close to even now because since then, I've sent roughly 15 more new accounts to 1and1.com - so at least I sleep well at night knowing the Affiliate Manager got screwed just as bad as he screwed me.
And Second: Netfirms email-based customer support is the worst I have ever encountered anywhere, not just with web hosts. And it's really mind-blowing because if you google "netfirms sucks" you'll see that legions of people have just this complaint. Netfirms email-based support almost never properly answers the question you ask them. They NEVER fix an issue or admit to an issue being their fault. Often, they simply don't reply, or reply once with a canned statement and then "close the ticket." I can't believe they still haven't overhauled their support department. Maybe the support manager is sleeping with the president of the company.... Interestingly though, if you CALL their tech support line (1-888-334-3833 or 416-661-3863) you get fast and competent service! Netfirms makes it hard to find their phone number, so it was only recently I discovered this.
So, in short, if you think you will EVER need email-based tech support, then I assure you that Netfirms is absolutely NOT for you. But if after reading all of this, you think Netfirms could be for you, then why not click my link.? Oh, and here's what else I know about Netfirms:
